(On why he has decided to take his football social enterprise global)
"Well obviously there's a big vacuum when it comes to social responsibility in football in the world. Football is the most powerful sport, it's the common language for the world and I think that there's a lot more that can be done. For myself, we started in Asia when I was elected as vice president for the FIFA executive committee, representing Asia. We started across the continent with small projects. I used at the time whatever salary I got from FIFA to put into the project, to kick it off. But now having visited the world during my FIFA campaign, I did things a little bit differently. I wasn't there just to lobby but actually went out and tried to see as much as possible what the situation was like on the ground for so many countries in so many territories in the world. And there's such a need to give back and therefore we decided that the best way is to take AFDP and go global."

(On how FIFA lacks focus on social responsibility, especially disregarding people with disabilities)
"My personal experience in FIFA - and I worked and chaired their social responsibility - I did find that there was quite a lack at the time. First of all, their idea of social responsibility was cutting down on gas emissions or what have you. I'm an environmentalist fine, but I'm not sure that that should have been the priority when it comes to social responsibility. At the same time, there's the issue for example of people with disabilities. And I said, 'look why don't we work on that'. And the answer was, 'that's not our business, we leave that to the Special Olympics.' So there is definitely and honestly a lack. But having said that, we've seen obviously recently the UEFA Foundation coming about. I've heard that FIFA has a FIFA foundation in the works. At least I'm pretty hopeful that that we played a role in encouraging that. I think the most important thing is you have to get past the mentality that social responsibility is there to improve your image and actually do it for the purpose of improving people's lives on the ground."
REPORTER: That line on disability is interesting. Who was it that said that? Was it (former FIFA president) Sepp Blatter or someone within the administration?
"Take a wild guess."

9. 04:02 SOUNDBITE (English) Prince Ali, Former FIFA Presidential Candidate
(On how development needs to be a "critical" focus for FIFA, as well as just expanding the men's game)
"They have to focus a lot more on development. If anything that's where it's lacking a lot when it comes to youth tournaments. Personally I would have loved to see an increase in participation in youth tournaments and women's football rather than just a huge explosion when it comes to the men's game. But then again, that's the case and that's what's happening right now. But essentially I mean the role of development is critical for FIFA."

(Will he run again to be FIFA president?)
"(Laughs) I'm just focused on this project right now and also on my own FA and the West Asian (Football Federation).
REPORTER: Is that a definite no?
"I'm focused on this and that's it."

12. 05:13 SOUNDBITE (English) Prince Ali, Former FIFA Presidential Candidate
(On some of the success stories from AFDP's projects)
"Right now we have ten players who were selected from the Zaatari refugee camp who are playing in Brazil, training and so on. Hopefully maybe one or two of them will end up playing professionally. The girls in Cambodia they won the first ever women's league in Cambodia and many of them form the backbone of the Cambodian national team. So there's a lot that can be done and you have to provide the opportunities. We're not focused on the elite level of the game, we're focused on helping those who need it the most. But if some of them become stars then all the better."

STORYLINE:
Former FIFA presidential candidate, HRH Prince Ali Bin Al-Hussein of Jordan, spoke to SNTV on Tuesday (9th October) about taking his football social enterprise global, while criticising a "lack" of action from FIFA and laughing off the prospect of running again for president.
SCRIPTING INFORMATION:
The head of the Jordanian Football Association detailed plans for the Association Football Development Program Global (AFDP Global) to fund projects, donate equipment and provide expert management at a launch at Arsenal's Emirates Stadium in London on Tuesday.
The NGO's partners include War Child UK, which helps former child soldiers in Africa, the UEFA Foundation For Children, street football world and the Spanish league.
The prince's original focus was in Asia, with funding from FIFA payments as a member of its executive committee from 2011-15. He decided to go global after meeting soccer officials on his FIFA election campaigns in 2015 and '16.
The Zaatari refugee camp of 80,000 people displaced from Syria has been the programme's core work with 5,000 children now playing football, including on a field for girls opened in recent weeks.
After losing FIFA elections first against Sepp Blatter in and then in a five-candidate contest won by Gianni Infantino, Prince Ali does not expect to try a third time.
"I'm focused on this and that's it," said the former FIFA vice president, who also heads the West Asian group of FIFA member federations.
