Als Ehrengast war der ehemalige chinesische NBA-Star und 2,29 Meter grosse Yao Ming geladen.

Ex-NBA star Yao Ming watched as North Korean and Chinese basketball players joined to play a mixed friendly match on Tuesday (9th October) in Pyongyang.

SCRIPTING INFORMATION:

North Korean and Chinese basketball players joined to play a mixed friendly match on Tuesday in Pyongyang, with veteran Chinese NBA star Yao Ming watching.

Senior North Korean officials from the ruling Worker's Party were also part of the audience, but North Korean leader Kim Jong Un did not attend.

Chinese women basketball players visiting Pyongyang this week mixed together with North Korean women players to form two teams, called "Friendship" and "Unity".

The Unity team won the match, 107 points to 106. Yao Ming, towering over everyone else in the stadium, congratulated the players at the end of the match.

After a period of frosty ties, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has visited China three times this year, and traditional proclamations of friendship between the two neighbours have been resurrected.

Speculation continues as to if and when Xi Jinping will make his first visit to North Korea as Chinese President.
