STORYLINE:
French elite police forces staged an anti-terrorism exercise in Lyon on Tuesday, to coincide with a meeting between European interior ministers and US Attorney General Jeff Sessions.
The morning was dedicated to a full scale demonstration of elite forces with 260 police officers and 300 extras taking part.
The exercise demonstrated how different units could coordinate their action, equipment and expertise during any security threat, according to French officials.
The scenario involved a group of "terrorists" killing a large number of fans inside Lyon's Groupama Stadium using explosives and automatic weapons.
The first wave of elite forces, BRI, forced the attackers to retreat, taking hostages as they did so.
The second wave, RAID, definitively neutralised the remaining attackers.
European interior ministers, Sessions, and other delegates viewed the exercise from higher in the stands.
The officials had gathered on Monday night for talks on immigration, despite the starkly different views between Italy's anti-immigrant Interior Minister Matteo Salvini and others, including the French hosts who are seeking a region-wide solution to migrant arrivals.
The interior ministers of Britain, Germany, Italy, Spain, Poland and Morocco are taking part. Sessions and Deputy Homeland Security Secretary Claire Grady joined for Tuesday's talks.
